Promoting Openness and Learning From Our Differences

At Accor, diversity is manifold. And making people with disabilities feel included and welcome in the workplace is part of our culture of inclusion. Our Group works to raise awareness of disability, promote employment and welcome guests with disabilities in our establishments. 

Our ambition is to provide meaningful employment, a warm and welcoming culture, excellent working conditions and to promote the development of all people, including those with disabilities.

Training is essential to change the way people look at disability, to raise awareness of stereotypes, prejudices and decision-making biases, and thus to facilitate recruitment, integration and professional development. We strive to remove obstacles so that there is less stigma attached to people declaring themselves as disabled, especially for those whose disabilities are not necessarily visible. 

Accor Has Signed the ILO Disability Charter 

The Group is committed to providing equal opportunities for every differently abled team member by promoting equality in the workplace and actively working towards the prevention of discrimination, wherever we are present across the world. In 2015, we strengthened our commitment to integrating people with disabilities by signing and adopting the 10 principles of the Global Business and Disability Charter of the ILO, the International Labour Organization, which was a key step forward in our inclusion journey.

A Member of the Valuable 500 

In December 2021, Accor took its commitment a step further by joining the “Valuable 500, a global initiative aimed at explicitly adding the inclusion of people with disabilities as a goal in the roadmaps of multinationals. The goal? To initiate a fundamental change by bringing together 500 key companies, which is the number needed to reach a tipping point, according to the movement’s founder, Caroline Casey.

We take inclusion very seriously, which includes setting up proper recruitment channels. For instance, our Accor Careers recruitment site offers the possibility for any person with a disability to share their situation and status.

The Smart Room: A Concept to Improve Guestroom Accessibility

As well as boosting inclusion in our teams, our aim is also to make guests with a range of disabilities feel welcome at our hotels by offering “Smart Rooms” with height-adjustable beds, floor lighting, and showers with removable walls and adjustable jets. The Smart Room is a symbol of the Group's inclusive hospitality, which combines the best of functionality and design to offer an optimized welcome to all guests.

Inclusive Initiatives at Accor Across The World

In France, our intercompany sporting challenge “Ensemble” aims to change the way people look at disability and in China, we’re offering graduates with disabilities six-month internships like at the Novotel Shanghai Atlantis which has already welcomed 163 trainees and has employed nine post-graduates. Communication is also vital; therefore in Spain, our teams are taking up a sign language course created in collaboration with the “Instituto Europeo de Turismo Inclusivo”.
