Through its ocean conservation partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), our Novotel brand is taking steps to reduce its marine impact while supporting innovations to protect ocean biodiversity – initiatives woven into the guest experience to highlight the vital role oceans play in addressing climate challenges.

FAIRMONT MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB - KENYA

Breeding & Rewilding Bongos

Bongos face extinction from hunting, poaching, habitat loss, and disease. Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, home to Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, partnered with Kenyan authorities to create the world's first bongo sanctuary.

This natural haven runs a unique breeding and rewilding program with a long-term objective of 750+ bongos over 50 years, securing the species’ future.

Shark Sanctuary

In the lobby of Pullman Phuket Panwa Beach Resort, baby bamboo sharks hatch safely and grow before release into nearby shallow reefs, their natural home.

These sharks, essential to the reef’s ecosystem, face threats from pollution, overfishing, and hunting. The hotel’s shark nursery, in partnership with Oceans for All Foundation (OFA), gives them a safe start in life.

Built in the 16th century, Lake Hamirsar has sustained Bhuj’s growth and relationship with water through its artificial reservoir and network, despite harsh climate conditions. Hands-On Marine Biology

At three Maldivian properties – Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort and Raffles Maldives Meradhoo Resort – marine biologists engage guests in awareness and protection projects.

At Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, guests join coral restoration efforts by helping the resort’s resident marine biologists attach baby coral fragments to underwater frames.

PULLMAN BALI - INDONESIA

Environmental Education

Green Globe-certified Pullman Bali Legian Beach labels native plants with species and origin details, deepening guests' connection to local flora. Signage reminds them of the area’s diverse wildlife, encouraging respectful interaction.

The resort’s Green Team organizes regular beach clean-ups, preserving Bali’s natural beauty while promoting sustainability among guests and staff.

Responsible Tourism

At Green Key-certified Fairmont Mayakoba, Heartists® receive year-round sustainability training on waste management, marine life, and climate change. The hotel inspires responsible tourism by offering eco-tours, beach clean-ups, and visits to local Mayan communities.
