Mövenpick's Kilo of Kindness: A Decade of Impact, A Legacy of Connection

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Mövenpick's Kilo of Kindness – an annual charity initiative inviting guests, Heartists®, and locals to donate essential items and time to help those in need. 

Since its inception as a grassroots effort, Kilo of Kindness has grown into a cherished Mövenpick tradition which now includes 70+ Mövenpick hotels across 30 countries. By partnering with local charities, every participating Mövenpick hotel ensures that the initiative’s positive impact directly benefits the communities in which it operates. 

More than Kilos Donated

Each year, Kilo of Kindness engages guests, team members, and local communities in a shared mission to support local needs through contributions of food, clothing, school supplies, and volunteer time. Over the past decade, Kilo of Kindness has gathered more than 100,000 kilograms of donations, as well as countless volunteer hours to charitable causes worldwide. 

The true measure of Kilo of Kindness is not in the kilos donated, but in the smiles shared and hope renewed. Whether helping a local family in need or supporting communities recovering from disaster, these efforts have made a real difference wherever Mövenpick calls home.

Rebuilding a Village Following the Yagi Typhoon 

After the devastation caused by the Yagi Typhoon in West Hanoi, Vietnam in 2024, Heartists® stepped in to deliver crucial assistance to a village in need. Nguyen Van Minh, Senior Sales Manager at Mövenpick Living West Hanoi, made a meaningful contribution by helping restore a vital bridge.

A rewarding moment you remember? 

The trip [to reconstruct the bridge] brought me to majestic landscapes where life remains deeply connected to nature. Despite the storm’s devastation, the villagers continued to rebuild, just like the resilient terraced fields still glowing green in the wind and rain. Their spirit taught me perseverance — that overcoming hardship leads to precious results, much like those fields that stay in my memory.

What did participation in this particular initiative mean to you?

To me, Kilo of Kindness symbolizes the power of giving back — even the smallest actions can make life better. Whether through blood donation, charity runs, or fundraising sales, I believe that when we act together, those small grams of kindness grow into kilos and even tons.

Collective Mobilization Following the Marrakech Earthquake

Generous donations from Heartists® and guests from the Mövenpick Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech in 2023 offered much-needed aid to those impacted by the Marrakech earthquake. Executive Pastry Chef Rachid Lachguer actively participated in these efforts.

A rewarding moment you remember? 

The most memorable moment of my involvement in the Kilo of Kindness initiative was our visit to the mountain villages, some of which had been partially destroyed by the earthquake and are very isolated. --- This experience allowed me to see firsthand the impact of our initiative: not only were we providing material support to the communities, but we were also creating strong human connections. The feedback we received (heartfelt thanks and unforgettable moments of sharing) showed how even small actions can touch lives in a meaningful and lasting way.

What did participation in this particular initiative mean to you?

This initiative allowed me to put Mövenpick’s values into practice in a concrete way. Collaborating with my colleagues to organize and coordinate our actions strengthened our team spirit and showed me the tangible impact we can have. Together, we achieved the impossible: reaching hard-to-access areas to support families in distress, and it was seeing their reactions that made the experience truly meaningful. Above all, it was the human encounters that left the deepest impression on me. On a personal level, witnessing the generosity and gratitude of the families, despite their difficulties, touched me profoundly. These exchanges reminded me of the importance of empathy, solidarity, and the meaningful impact our actions can have.

Distributing Clothing and Toys in Stuttgart

Donor contributions at the Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart enabled the German Red Cross to distribute winter clothing and toys to children, helping them embrace the spirit of Christmas. Tanja Rollny, Communications Manager, CSR & Quality, participated in the initiative.

A rewarding moment you remember? 

The most touching feedback we received came the last two years from the team at the German Red Cross. In 2023 and 2024 they were especially grateful for our many donations of well-preserved children’s toys. Through this contribution, we helped make sure that children who might otherwise have gone without could receive Christmas presents. Knowing that we could bring a bit of joy to them was truly heartwarming.

What did participation in this particular initiative mean to you?

I have been part of the Kilo of Kindness campaign for several years now, and it is wonderful to see how many of our team members take part every year. It has become something of a yearly tradition for us. Personally, this initiative means a lot to me – supporting it makes my work even more meaningful. It is truly a project that comes from the heart.
