Food & Beverage Sofitel celebrates the wine tradition

« Who knows how to taste wine never drinks wine again, but tastes secrets instead» according to Salvador Dali. Since 2014, Sofitel is bringing you all the secrets of the famous nectar with its "Sofitel Wine Days". From October 1 to 31, the brand collaborated with the biggest names in gastronomy and wine to promote the wine tradition among its properties. Notice to amateurs and connoisseurs!

When August comes to an end and September arrives, the harvest is in full swing each year in France. More than 3,000 different wines are produced in the "land of wine"! 

Once again this year, Sofitel - the international ambassador of French elegance- took the opportunity to celebrate this precious tradition with dedicated activities and events in its hotels, including tastings, cocktails, discovery of great wines, dinners, and auctions. Sofitel Wine Days present a world tour of the most beautiful celebrations of wine. 

Wine on your plate

For the occasion, the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg (France) led the charge and proposed an autumn menu at its Blossom restaurant. Themed around the grape harvests, the exclusive menu includes dishes such as poached eggs swimming in a bed of red wine sauce, sea bass in a white butter and Laurent Perrier champagne jus, and a dessert of Guyot pear soaked in red wine and sweet spices. Tasting dinners with the winemakers were also offered for those who wanted to really get to grips with the grape.

A tradition making its way into the United States...…

Sofitel hotels in the U.S. have partnered with world-renowned French cheesemonger Roland Barthélemy to create unique pairings with select cheeses. The playfully named, beautifully presented pairings will introduce global palates to exceptional French cheeses from a handful of regions, including: « Perfume of the Islands », « Chocolat » and « Dream ».

At the Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square, the Opaline Bar & Brasserie restaurant served its best wines to accompany the cheeses. Domaine Martray, Vielles Vignes, Domaine Paquet Domaine Berthet Rayne, Côtes du Rhône Blanc… The wines were a perfect accompaniment to the cheesemaker's selection. A tutorial was also produced on site to deepen the participants' knowledge of oenology.

And in addition to the delectable wine-and-cheese pairings served at Café des Architectes, the Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile offered “Knock Knock Champagne” service. The guests could receive a bottle of champagne from a refined selection to match their tastes simply by marking a specialized doorknocker on their room door.

…and in London.

At the Sofitel London St James, the celebrations also delighted the guests' palates (and eyes). The Saint-Jacques bar nodded to France with its Coco Chanel-themed decor; inspired by the fashion designer's bedroom, oriental-style lacquer screens line the walls while gold and navy chairs circle the bar.

The hotel also offered non-alcoholic versions of red, white and pink juices thanks to the partnership of head mixologist Remi Garcia and French fruit farmer Alain Milliat. Quality juices that could also be combined with alcohols to create exclusive cocktails.
